A Writer's Life
In addition to a wonderful life of creating characters and stories in my head, I am also blessed with a community of fantastically talented author and illustrator friends.
None of this would have been possible without the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). I joined SCBWI in 2002 and continue to learn and make life-long friends at every conference. I am the Regional Advisor (RA) of the IA/MN chapter of SCBWI and encourage all writers and illustrators to join this amazing organization.
My writing group, referred to as The Bloc, formed in 2006 after a SCBWI conference. During the past decade, Jan Blazanin, Rebecca Janni, Sharelle Byars Moranville and I have published, laughed, and cried together. Anyone interested in writing or illustrating, needs to find a group like this to keep their sanity in the wacky world of publishing.
Just like Alice said in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, "You're mad, bonkers, completely off your head. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are."
